When we first started working on Puberty: The Wonder Years, one of our core principles was making education accessible and straightforward. Today, I’m reminded of this principle as we announce important changes to how we package and deliver our Puberty: The Wonder Years curriculum.
Over the past year, we’ve been listening intently to your feedback and observing how educators use our materials. What became clear was that while our comprehensive coverage of puberty education was meeting academic and state-specific needs, the way we structured our offerings wasn’t always making your lives easier.
Learning from Your Experience
Several specific experiences highlighted the challenges educators were continually facing:
- A Michigan school district purchased HIV lessons from another publisher, unaware we offered compatible add-on lesson for 5th grade.
- In California, a district discovered mid-year they needed 2 add-on lessons to meet state requirements, forcing them to seek extra funding.
- A New Mexico school district had to wait until the following school year to implement our pre- post- tests (to assess student gains), as it was not reviewed in their committee & board review.
These scenarios showed us we needed to make our complete curriculum offering clearer and more accessible.
Research consistently shows that comprehensive sex education programs are most effective when implemented with skill-based training. A recent study by the Journal of Adolescent Health found that teachers who received comprehensive materials and training were three times more likely to cover all essential topics effectively. This aligns perfectly with what we’ve observed: educators who participated in our training programs reported significantly higher confidence levels in delivering sensitive content.
Simplifying to Strengthen Impact
After careful analysis of state requirements, usage patterns, and your feedback, we’re introducing a streamlined, Complete Curriculum bundle. This comprehensive package includes everything needed for successful implementation: You can find the new comprehensive packages by grade here.
Instead of navigating through 67 different products, you’ll now have access to a complete, integrated solution that includes the teacher guide, PowerPoint slides, student materials, family engagement activities, parent notification resources, add-on lessons, and assessment tools (pre- post- tests).
Additionally, recognizing the crucial role of teacher preparation in successful implementation, we’re offering a bundle that includes comprehensive training at a significant cost savings. This decision directly responds to our observation that educators who complete our training program demonstrate notably higher confidence and effectiveness in delivering the curriculum.
This isn’t just about consolidation – it’s about ensuring every educator has the full toolkit needed for success from day one. We’ve seen that when teachers have access to all resources upfront, their students show better engagement and understanding of this crucial subject matter.
Why This Matters
In today’s educational landscape, teaching puberty and sexual health requires more than just content knowledge. It demands confidence, proper resources, and community engagement tools.
Our data shows that educators using our complete solution, including training components, report:
- Higher comfort levels discussing sensitive topics
- Better parent communication and engagement
- Increased ability to address diverse student needs
- Stronger alignment with evolving state standards
Investment in Quality
As part of this transformation, we’re adjusting our pricing structure to reflect the comprehensive nature of the new bundles and to sustain our commitment to quality and ongoing support. This update enables us to continue investing in curriculum development, teacher support, and the creation of new resources that respond to emerging educational needs.
Looking Forward
Education is never static, and neither are we. This restructuring allows us to be more responsive to your needs and emerging educational requirements. We’re excited about how this change will simplify your planning process and strengthen your ability to deliver this crucial content effectively.
Thank you for your continued trust in Puberty: The Wonder Years. Together, we’re making comprehensive puberty education more accessible and impactful than ever.
