Yes, October is Let’s Talk Month. But it’s always the right time to talk with your kids about growing up, puberty, body autonomy, consent, and sex. So, let’s talk!
Parents, caregivers, educators, and other trusted adults want to do a nice job of equipping children for a positive puberty experience and for safe and healthy relationships. To help you, I’ve collected some great resources for Let’s Talk Month.
Let’s Talk Month Resources:
- Reading books together is a great way to jumpstart conversations. Check out this blog post with book lists to find books that will help you talk with kids about puberty.
- These four challenges can jump-start conversations with your child. Some of them are more appropriate for teens, so pick the challenges that are appropriate for the age of your child.

- Askable Parent Challenge, Amaze
- The Ottawa County Health Department has developed a helpful resource for families titled “Let’s Talk: Beyond the Birds & the Bees: A Family Guide.” (2023 update: this resource has been removed due to community politics.)
- Power to Decide has assembled a Talking Is Power toolkit and resources.
- Take a look at the Let’s Talk Month resources from Planned Parenthood

- If you want to plan an event to celebrate Let’s Talk Month, be sure to refer to the Let’s Talk Planning Guidebook from Advocates for Youth.
Remember: it’s always the right time to have conversations with kids about the things that interest them. So, let’s talk!
